LIFE Saramugo Project celebrated the World Environment Day, on the 5th of June, with the inauguration of a new leisure area in the middle of the saramugo habitat: the Relíquias Leisure Area in Vascão riverside.
This Park is the result of the transfer of a piece of land to the Union of the Parishes of São Miguel do Pinheiro, São Pedro de Sólis and São Sebastião dos Carros, with the support of the LIFE Saramugo Project with the installation of picnic equipment and an information panel.
Located in the vicinity of Vascão, one of the last refuges of saramugo, this space will allow not only cultural and leisure activities, but also promote the approximation and enjoyment of nature by all the local population and those who visit it.
The inauguration started at 5:00 p.m., about 30 people attended this event, including representatives of local authorities, private entities and public in general. In this celebration there was also a symbolic plantation of oleander and it was possible to make known the LIFE Saramugo Project, and distribut some information material.
At the end of the celebration and in recognition of its contribution to the safeguarding of natural values at European level, the 25 years of the LIFE Program and the Habitats Directive were celebrated with the traditional singing of happy birthday and the sharing a delicious chocolate cake.
