Scientific name: Micropterus salmoides
Common name: Largemouth bass
Description: Body compressed laterally, presenting a dorsal fin divided in 2 contiguous parts, the first being composed of spiny rays and the second by soft rays. Narrow caudal peduncle. The mouth is terminal and broad, and in individuals> 10cm the lower jaw is prominent and extends beyond the vertical of the posterior border of the eye. It has teeth in both jaws. It can reach 30-40cm in total length, and weighs 2-3kg, exceptionally 4kg.
Breeding season: End of April-July (depending on water temperature 15-16ºC).
Diet: Opportunistic, feeding essentially on crustaceans, larvae and adults of insects, other invertebrates and fish.
