In this Action, it is intended to determine relevant factors for improving the efficacy of blocking barriers to common bleak dispersal, namely, determining their swimming performance and capacity to transpose physical barriers, and determining their reaction to electrical fields and to other devices (bubble barrier).
This Action will be developed and coordinated by the University of Évora during the first two years of the project, and followed closely by ICNF and LPN.
Tests will be targeted towards testing the common bleak and its:
• Swimming capacity in different current velocity regimes;
• Capacity to transpose physical obstacles by jumping;
• Response to different types of electrical current (voltage, frequency, type of pulse).
These indications will determine the level of efficacy of the different alternatives under study for blocking the progression of the target exotic species and define the best option to be implemented in Action C4.
The studies related to the physical barriers, that is, the obstacles which condition the advancement of the common bleak upstream, have their experimental procedure already delineated and will be executed in the experimental waterway on the Campus da Mitra of the University of Évora.
